Default Weapon mod salvaging misery

Alright, just about 30 mins ago I just unlocked a +30hp staff upgrade. Now I was very excited about this knowing how much they go for I thought hey a nice increase in my account. But then reality set in and I realized getting the mod was only have the work. I believe this is where alot of people get the shaft and whenever they salvage the item, all the get is wood or some other materials. Well, this story isnt any different and I got a +5 defense upgrade. Another example happened when I got a 10/10 sundering axe shaft, but ended up salvaging wood or something.

Now I do realize Im not the only one this has happen to, but one of my questions is this. If, lets say you unlocked a rune, you would have a hundred percent chance of salvaging the rune instead of cloth, hides, etc. If this can be done for runes, why cant it be done for weapons?

money sink, perhaps.

Happened to me too. I had a +27 health mod not salvage...and countless other mods that I don't care about as much like Fiery prefixes.

It doesn't remove a single gold piece from the game, so not a money sink.

And yeah, it sucks to see a perfect upgrade slip through your fingers like that.

Gli, it is a money sink when you have to spend more money/time to get the item mod.

Suppose you found a superior vigor rune. If it doesn't slavage the time and money wasted would translate to a money sink, because it prevented you from possible money gain.

That is just like how 15K armor is a money sink. The money taken doesn't contribute to progression of your character, it is pure vanity.

It's just disturbing knowing that you have a 100% chance of plucking a rune out of whatever... stuff ettins and titans wear but you can't seem to get it out of your own clothes half the time.

Exactly -- the person who would have bought the rune from you instead buys from the trader, thus a money sink.

The subject is weapon upgrades, not runes.

You can't buy upgrades from traders, and failing to harvest an upgrade doesn't remove any money from the game, so it's not a money sink. Wasted time isn't a money sink either. By that reasoning, dancing in pre-searing would be the biggest money sink in the game.

in some very limited cases, it would actually be the opposite of a money sink......a money spigot?

let's say I'm farming for a particular mod (like I said -- very limited) --- I get finally get one, but it's destroyed.
I now continue on shaking down hapless mobs for their stuff.

the point of a money sink is to deflate the economy, or more appropriately, slow inflation, which can also be done by flooding the market w/goods (ie the opposite of destroying them).

ps

why are people always going on about money sinks every time somebody posts a topic here?

you DO have the option to sell that stuff unsalvaged and let the buyer roll dice.

From what i've heard and tested the chances of a failed weapon mod salvage is about 1 out of every 8...so, good luck everybody
